Accounting Grad Euan Milne

  • Graduate School of Professional Accounting student helps the Northeastern University Rugby Team to an undefeated season and an opportunity to play for the National Championship.

Milne, EuanGraduate student, Euan Milne, arrived in Boston from Edinburgh, UK last May and immersed himself in the local customs and activities. One of the activities was joining the club rugby team at Northeastern. Milne is no stranger to rugby. While attending the University of Edinburgh, Euan was the co-founder of the Edinburgh Law School Rugby Club.

The Northeastern University Maddogs went undefeated this Fall with a 6-0 record. They won the East Coast Rugby Conference regular season, are ranked 6th in the nation, and will compete for the National Championship this Spring. First round matches begin April 28-29, and Northeastern’s first round opponent is the Ivy League champion (still to be determined). Milne led the team and the entire East Coast Rugby Conference in tries scored.

In addition to rugby, Milne has enjoyed a myriad of experiences, including attending Patriots, Celtics and Red Sox games. He has yet to experience a Boston Bruins game, a team he watches regularly. His quintessential Boston moment occurred on July 4th. Euan and his girlfriend, Kate Greenough rented a canoe from Charles River Canoe and Kayak in Allston near the Elliot Bridge. Equipped with a picnic lunch and plenty of sunscreen, Euan and Kate paddled towards the fireworks barge in the Charles River Basin. The fireworks were spectacular. The trip back to the canoe rental house was less so. “Trying to navigate in the dark with power boats kicking up the river was very stressful, but overall it is one of the favorite things I did this summer.”

Euan hopes to leverage his prior educational experience as a Law student at the University of Edinburgh with the intensive training received at Northeastern. His specialty in law school related to takeover law and director and auditor liability. His corporate residency begins this January with Ernst & Young in the financial services audit group. Long-term Euan wants to stay in the Boston area and start his own venture capital organization.

Asked what he missed about Scotland, he immediately pines for the golf courses at St. Andrews, Carnoustie, and his home course, Royal Aberdeen, where he worked as a caddy from age 11. However, he really misses his granny’s food and the cold weather in the middle of the summer.
