As many of you may be aware, Dean Thomas Moore took a leave of absence from the University to attend to health issues. This past June, Dean Moore lost his battle with cancer. We lost a great leader in Tom, and we will miss him.
Professor Harry Lane has taken the position of Acting Dean while the University conducts a national search. Accounting Professor Mario Maletta is the chairperson of the search committee and is working very closely with the Provost’s Office. In addition to changes at the very top of the College organizational chart, you may notice a change in accounting group coordinator. Professor Tim Rupert is taking over for previous group coordinator, Professor Margie Platt. Margie is assuming the role of Senior Associate Dean and Dean of Faculty for the College. Margie was a driving force in the expansion of accounting faculty, hiring more than 10 new professors in five years. She was instrumental in the development of an undergraduate advisory committee and led or assisted in the development or redesign of numerous curriculum initiatives, including the online Master’s of Taxation Program and the Joint Bachelors/Masters in Accounting. The accounting faculty wish her well in her new role.
